Abstract:—Anthurium bromelicola (Araceae) is a micro endemic plant species epiphytic to tanks of bromeliads from northeastern Brazil. In view of the lack of data on this interaction, we aimed to conduct a review on the taxonomic and morphological aspects of A. bromelicola in order to contribute to the species ex-situ conservation. We conducted a literature review and observed cultivated individuals collected from the Center for Research and Conservation of Bromeliaceae (UPCB) at Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), Brazil. The species has an epiphytic habit, and its morphological features differ greatly from those of the other species in the genus.

The vulnerability of Atlantic Forest fragments to which remnant populations of the species are subjected hampers the species in-situ conservation. In that sense, future research focusing on improving A. bromelicola cultivation in bromeliad collections (ex-situ conservation) is fundamental to ensure the species survival.
