Abstract:—Fosterella nicoliana J. Peters & Ibisch, a new species from the northern lowlands of Peru is described. Thus, the known central-South American range of the genus is considerably expanded towards the north. The number of Fosterella-species known from Peru is raised to six, and the total number of Fosterella-species has now reached 31. The new species is clearly distinct from all other known species of the genus bv its globose fruits, and especially by its clavate seeds (which are otherwise filiform). So far, five herbarium specimens are available from three localities in the Departamentos San Martin/Loreto and Oxapampa.
