Abstract:—Tillandsia ionantha and their relatives Up to now following varieties of T. ionantha are described — var. ionantha type form — var. vanhyningii stem-forming, pruinose lepidote — var. stricta red leaves, even when not flowering — var. stricta f. fastigiata tightly compressed leaves — var. zebrina banded leaf blades — var. scaposa short scape. A new variety T. ionantha var. maxima was found growing on steep rocks in Oaxaca, Mexico. lt is much bigger (up to 3-fold) than T. ionantha var. vanhyningii, with finely appressed scales, green, not grey.
