Abstract:—Vriesea gruberi was collected by Franz- Georg Gruber, having long been working with Gülz in Germany and now owner of a nursery for bromeliads and orchids in Colombia. This new species is related to V. hitchcockiana. but differs in following characteristics: plant forming an open rosette. not slightly bulbous; leaves broader, less lepidote; scape and inflorescence decurved, not erect; flowers subsessile, up to 6 (not 4) cm long; flower bracts not spreading. yellow, not dark purple and slightly waxy; petals linear without elliptic blade. dark violet. not purple.
