Abstract:—In 1983 I described Vriesea ospinae, a very pretty species that had been in the horticultural trade under a variety of names.’ There was no information available concerning who collected the plant or here although at least five amateur and commercial growers provided flowering specimens to the Bromeliad Identification Center. The species became well known in private collections where it was sometimes allowed to develop into large clusters of offsets surrounding the mother plant. The light green leaves with delicate tracery form attractive specimens although hobbyists have noted that it is reluctant to flower.
