Abstract:—During a journey to central and southern Bolivia the author found a big Tillandsia with pending yellow intlorescence growing on steep sandstone rocks in large populations together with T. edithae, T. virescens, Puya nana and Xylobium spec. It differs from T. austral MEZ by the yellow inflorescence and the shorter spikes, which are shorter stipitate. Furth sirnilarities to T. sagastequii can be seen, but several characteristics are obviousiy so diffirent, that there is rio doubt to consider T. samaipatensis as a new species. in addition the distance of 2000 km between the habitat support the conclusion.
