Abstract:—This new species is growing in Mexico, Guerrero, near Petatlan, 1500 m s.m. The plant is related to T. prodigiosa (Lemaire) Baker but it grows lithophytically with many offsets at the rhizomous base. The leaves are thick and coriaceous. The inflorescence is up to 60 cm in diameter (T. prodigiosa at most 25 cm) the primary bracts are up to 30 cm long, without foliaceous blades, pink, waxy, much longer than the spike and hiding it (T. prodigiosa: darker pink and including the foliaceous, recurved tips, only 15 cm long, about as long as the spike, apex of the spike visible). Floral bracts and flowers longer, much longer than the sepals, petals green with violet (T. prodigiosa has always green petals). T. mirabilis is growing at 1500 m s.m., T. prodigiosa at 1900-2700 m. The plant was collected for the first time on 8.7.1988 by Lotte & Helmut Hromadnik and recollected at anthesis on 27.12.1991.
