plant flowering ca 100 cm tall with the inflorescence extended. leaves coriaceous, densely rosulate, suberect, forming at base a broadly funnelform rosette; sheath broadly elliptic, ca 20 x 13 cm, very densely pale brown-lepidote on both sides, greenish toward apex, pale-castaneous toward base; blade narrowly triangular, acuminate-caudate, ca 30 x 7.5 cm, white-cretaceous, densely and minutely white-lepidote mainly abaxially, grayish-green, margins dark red. inflorescence: peduncle stout, ca 45 cm long, ca 1.5 cm in diameter, strongly curved, green, glabrous; peduncle bracts the basal ones foliaceous, the upper ones suberect, inconspicuously whitelepidote, green, distinctly exceeding the internodes, with a broadly ovate sheath ca 40 x 25 mm, and a long caudate blade ca 60 mm long; fertile part compound, laxly paniculate-once-branched, in a angle of 90° to the rosette but ascending toward apex, ca 40 cm long, distinctly exceeding the leaves; primary bracts resembling the peduncle bracts but bearing much shorter blades, ca 45 x 30 mm, distinctly shorter than the sterile bases of the branches; branches 2–3 (including the terminal ones), 25–35 cm long, subspreading, ascending toward apex, densely flowered at anthesis, 10 to 15-flowered, peduncle 12–15 cm long, stout, green, glabrous, bearing 4 to 5 sterile bracts, rachis stout, slightly flexuous, angulose, green, glabrous; floral bracts suborbicular, 35 x 40–45 mm, obtuse, dark green except for the dark wine apex and margins, very inconspicuously and subdensely white-lepidote inside, glabrescent outside, about equaling 2/3 of sepals length at anthesis (about equaling the sepals before anthesis), secund with the flowers at anthesis, very thick and fleshy with exceptions of the margins, slightly gibbous, ecarinate. flowers stout, distichous, anthesis nocturnal, not noticebly fragrant, spreading and densely inbricate before anthesis, suberect-secund at anthesis, ca 60 mm long, pedicels very stout, subobconic, ca 10 mm long, ca 15 mm in diameter at apex, dark green, glabrous; sepals broadly elliptic, apex obtuse to emarginate, ca 30 x 25–27 mm, succulent and coriaceous mainly toward the base, margins membranaceous, free, ecarinate, dark green except for the dark wine margins and apex, inconspicuously white lepidote inside, glabrous outside; petals narrowly obovate, apex emarginate, ca 50 x 24 mm, free, pale yellowish-green, but darker green centrally and toward apex, suberect toward apex at anthesis, bearing at base 2 asymmetrical, narrowly subspatulate, acuminate to irregularly acuminate-dentate, ca 17 x 4 mm long appendages. stamens disposed in two rows with three of them on each lateral side of the corolla at anthesis; filament slightly complanate, free; anther linear, ca 11 mm long, base sagittate, apex obtuse, fixed near the base. pistil: stigma tubolaciniate, ca 1.5 mm in diameter, green, margins crenulate-dentate, erect; ovules caudate.
