; 0 rosette herb flowering 1 to 1.3 m tall (vargas et al.!). leaves at least ca 50 cm long and ca 3 cm wide at the base of the leaf-blade, margins coarsely spinose with antrorse dark brown to blackish spines 3–4 mm long ca 10 mm distant proximally and ca 25 mm distant distally, densely whitish lepidote on both surfaces; sheath inconspicuous, lunular, finely serrate at the margins. inflorescence: peduncle erect, ca 10 mm in diameter in the lower part, glabrous with age; peduncle bracts decayed; fertile part at least four times branched (but this depending on age!), the terminal flowering axes very slender, 0.5 mm in diameter, glabrous; floral bracts minute, broadly rounded, ca 1 mm long and ca 1.5 mm wide at the base, glabrous. flowers: pedicel 5–7 (–10) mm long, slenderly obconical, ca l mm wide at the base, angled to subalate, glabrous; sepals 7–9 mm long, asymmetric, glabrous, rigid, nerved, with a ca 1 mm hyaline margin at the right side (seen from outside) which slightly overtops the obtuse sepal apex, hardly if at all carinate, equally free; petals sublinear, obtuse, 20–24 mm long when dry, twisted rope-like, yellowish brown at the base, greenish distally (vargas et al.!), with two crenulated ligules ca 7 mm above the base. stamens: filament linear, ca 17 mm long, equal, anthers linear, basifixed. pistil: ovary ovoidal, ca 7 mm long, twice as long as wide, abruptly narrowed into the slender ca 17 mm long style; ovules short caudate at the chalaza; unripe fruits greenish (vargas et al.!), capsules fully septicidal but loculicidal only in the distal fourth, brown, smooth. fruits: seeds fusiform to slenderly cuneate, with a very short chalazal appendage.
