plant stemless, flowering 30–50 cm high, forming a 20 cm high, 20 cm wide, funnel rosette. leaves numerous, ca 20–30, to 25 cm long, thin leathery, green, both sides dense very fine appressed scales; sheath to 5 cm long, 3–4 cm wide, elliptic, the edges bent in, outside light brown, inside dark brown, both sides fine appressed scales; blade not clearly distinct, 1.5- 2.5 cm wide next to sheath, to 20 cm long, narrow triangular with bent in edges, and a weak asymmetric mid keel, weakly nerved, tapering to a long, narrow, almost filiform, bent outwards tip, inside small fine appressed scales, outside denser scaled, dark green, the edges and upper portion with dark red flecks. inflorescence: peduncle erect, 10–25 cm long, mostly exceeding the leaf rosette, 3.5 mm thick, light green, glabrous; peduncle bracts erect, adjacent to the peduncle, 2.5–3.5 cm long, ovate, fine grey lepidote sheath enclosing the stem, blade of the lower bracts leaf-like and similarly erect, to 12 cm long, the middle ones short tipped, the uppermost reduced to an acute tip similar to the floral bracts; fertile part mostly simple, erect or bent, to 10–15 cm long, 8–12 mm wide, linear, complanate, 9–15 distichous, imbricate, sessile flowers, at the base more sterile bracts, internodes ca 8–12mm; rachis 4 mm diam., 4 edged, green, glabrous; floral bracts densely imbricate, rachis not visible at anthesis, 2.5–3.5 cm long, 10–14 mm wwide, exceeding the sepals, ovate-triangular, sub-obtuse, thin leathery, not keeled, the base sometimes double keeled, yellow or red, glabrous, inside nerved. flowers: sepals 1.5–1.8 cm long, 5–6 mm wide, ovate, acuminate, yellow, thin leathery, free, not keeled; petals 2 .8–3.3 cm long, 5–6 mm wide, narrowing to 4 mm wide at base, the tip strongly bent outwards, dark violet, the bottom part light violet; at the base 2 ca 8–11 mm long white ligules occupying the whole width of the base of the petal and joined to it. stamens filament 2.9–3.1 cm long, straight, narrow ribbon-like, white,anthers 1–1.5 mm long, 0.5 mm wide, elliptic, light brown, versatilely joined in the middle, pollen egg yellow, style 2.2 cm long, 0.8 mm thick; white, the 5 mm violet, stigma 1.5 mm long, 1 mm wideand likewise violet, lobes almost erect. pistil: ovary 7 mm high, 2.5 mm wide at base, conical, light green.
