plant rupicolous of small to medium size, stoloniferous; short stemmed, 2–3,7 x 2–2,5 cm. leaves numerous, densely imbricate, arched, 5,3–17,5 cm long, sheaths green, ovate, 0,6–1,5 x 0,7–2,5 cm, abaxial face lepidote and adaxial sparsely lepidote, margins spinescent, spines 0,5–1 mm long, larger towards the apex; blade coriaceous, slightly concave, rose or red at the base, passing to purplish towards the apex, sometimes completely purplish, lucid, linear-triangular to narrow triangular, 4,7–17,3 x 0,5–1 cm, adaxial face sparsely lepidote or with scattered scales, abaxial face densely lepidote, margins spinescent, spines straight to antrorse, l,5–3 mm long, apex attenuate to mucronate. inflorescence sessile, many flowered, compound, branched in the outer portion, branches carrying three, or more rarely, two flowers, without branching in the central area; involucral bracts foliaceous, pink or red, triangular to narrow triangular, 3,3–6,5 x 1,4–1,5 cm, sparsely lepidote, margins spinescent, apex mucronulate; see drawing; floral bracts subcoriaceous, pink or red, asymmetrical, carinate, triangular, ca l,8 x l cm, margins toothed, glabrous, apex mucronate, mucron at times inflexed. flowers: sepals pink or red, asymmetrical, carinate, elliptic to lanceolate, 1,1–1,2 x 0,3 cm, glabrous, margins entire, apex acute; petals white, linear-spatulate, 1,5–1,6 x 0,4–0,5 cm, apex obtuse, petal appendages saciform, lacerated, to 3–4 mm from the base of the petals, callosities a little evident; epigynous tube ca 2 mm long. stamens of the first ring adnate to the petals in the basal portion, portion free from the filaments 2,5–3 mm long; the second ring free, forming a ring in the base of the calyx, ca 8 mm long, anther 3,2–3,5 mm long, apex apiculate; 0vary trigonous, style ca 1,2 cm long, fimbriate, ca 20 ovules per placenta. fruits and seeds not seen.
