plant flowering to 54 cm high with the inflorescence extended. leaves about 10 in a cyathiform rosette, to 23 cm long, not at all cretaceous; sheath very large, densely and minutely brown-punctulate; blade short, to 53 mm wide, rounded, apiculate or retuse. inflorescence: peduncle decurved, to 25 cm long, terete, glabrous; peduncle bracts remote, elliptic, abruptly acute; fertile part very lax; branches simple, 15 cm long with elongate sterile naked bases; primary bracts much shorter than the branches; spikes laxly flowered; floral bracts ovate, obtuse, 5 mm long, much shorter than the sepals. flowers probably dioecious, only the fruiting pistillate ones known; sepals strongly asymmetric, 9 mm long, sub~oriaceous, prominently nerved, brown-spotted at apex. fruits slenderly ovoid, acute, 15 mm long.
