plant flowering to 6 dm high. leaves many, cyathiform-rosulate, to 2 dm long and 45 mm wide, subelliptic with scarcely distinct sheaths, acute or subacute and apiculate, very narrowly pale-margined, glabrous. inflorescence: peduncle erect, slender; peduncle bracts elliptic, acute, erect and all but the highest imbricate; fertile part laxly twice-branched, 19 cm long; primary bracts ovate, acute, small; branches suberect, laxly flowered; floral bracts broadly ovate, slightly exceeding the pedicels. flowers: pedicel slender and very distinct, 1–1.5 mm long; sepals broadly elliptic, obtuse, subsymmetric, 2.5 mm long, thin; petals 5 mm long. fruits slender, acute, 12–13 mm long.
