plant acaulous, 45–55 cm tall when flowering. leaves 4 - 6 in crateriform rosettes, swollen at base; blade 10–13 x 1.5 cm, narrowly lanceolate, densely lepidote, apex long-acuminate, margins inrolled; sheath 10–12 x to 6.5 cm, broadly ovate to elliptic, entire, amplexicaul, lepidote. inflorescence: peduncle erect, 36–43 cm; long, c; 0.45 cm in diameter, glabrous; peduncle bracts 3.5–4.5 cm long, the lower foliaceous, narrowly lanceolate, amplexicaul, imbricate, densely lepidote; fertile part simple, axis glabrous, laxly 4- 6-flowered; floral bracts similar to and smaller than upper peduncle bracts, 2.25 - 3 cm long, navicular, densely lepidote. flowers shortly and stoutly pedicellate, suberect; pedicel 2- 3 mm long, glabrous; sepals c; 2.5 x 1–1.2 cm, exceeding floral bracts, very shortly connate at base, broadly ovate, obtuse, subcucullate, only slightly zygomorphic with one side slightly enlarged into a narrow, hyaline wing, yellow; petals (immature) 15 x 7 mm, appendage at base 1.5 x 1.8 mm, broadly deltoid.
