leaves 25–30 in number, in a subcarateriform rosette, flowering ca 65 cm long; sheath ample, divergent, elliptic to obovate, ca 10 x 6 cm, covered with brown appressed scales; blade narrowly lanceolate, distinclty narrowed toward the base, 3–3.5 cm wide, narrowly accuminate or acutish, thin and soft coriaceous, chaneled at the base, arching to recurved in apical part, with slightly undulate margins, minutely lepidote adaxially, not masking the green color of the blade, subdensely appressed-lepidote abaxially and more dull green. inflorescence: peduncle subterete, ca 25 cm long, 7 mm in diameter, densely bracteate and barely vissible if at all, glabrous, green; peduncle bracts the lower ones short foliaceous, sheathing part short with divergent blade, the upper ones narrowly triangular-ovate, attenuate, clasping the peduncle, apical part curved outward, adaxilally minutely lepidote, abaxially subdensely appressed lepidote, green; fertile part laxly and diffusely once or twice branched with a few secondary branches in lower part of the inflorescence (often not developing); main-axes erect, elongate, 4 mm in diameter, glabrous, green; primary bracts spreading with the branches, the lower like the upper peduncle bracts, much exceeding the sterile base of the branches, decreasing in size upward; the upper more ovate, acuminate, equaling or shorter than the sterile bases of the branches, lepidote, green; branches the lower ones with one or a few secondary branches, 10–19 cm long, the upper ones much shorter; spikes narrowly oblong in outlinde, 4.5–8.5(–13) cm long, 28–30 mm wide (without petals or fruit), very laxly 8–16-flowered; floral bracts spreading with the flowers, ovate, obtuse, 7–7.5 x 6–7 mm, much shorter than the sepals, ecarinate or the lower ones carinate, subcoriaceous, nerved, abaxially glabrous, adaxilly appressed lepidote at apex, greenish or pink. flowers spreading, ca 2 cm long; receptacle short sub-cylindric, 2.5 x 3.8 mm, glabrous, asymmetrically saccate ag base; sepals subequally short-connate to free, slightly asymmetric, fleshy at base and center, with broad hyalin margins, narrowly elliptic, obtuse or bluntly apiculate, 10–11(–13) x 5.5.–6 mm, ecarinate, even or nerved when dry, glabrous, greenish to rose; petals 18.5 mm long, the claw 2 mm wide, white to violet distally, the blade 9 x 6 mm, sub-ovate with triangular apical part, obtuse. stamens deeply included, 2 series of slightly unequal length, 7–7.5 mm long; filament linear, complanate, greenish distally; anther basifixed between the short lobes, 1.3 mm long, apiculate, olive-green, pollen pale yellow. pistil ca 1 mm inferior (sunck into the receptacle), exceeded by the stamens, 5 mm long; overy short cylindric, abruply contracted into the style, dark green; style (incl; stigma) shorter than the ovary, stout, white; stigma stout, divergent and slightly twisting, conduplicate and ridged, ridge densely papillose. fruits slenderly cylindric, abruptly acute, 35 mm long.
