plant stemless, flowering 5 dm high. leaves 25 cm long, very thin; sheath broadly elliptic, densely brown-lepidote; blade ligulate, rounded and apiculate, 45 mm wide, obscurely lepidote. inflorescence: peduncle erect, glabrous, shorter than the leaves; peduncle bracts imbricate, elliptic, apiculate, pale-lepidote; fertile part laxly distichous, once-branched, ovate, 30 cm long, 12 cm wide; axis straight, compressed, nearly glabrous; primary bracts ovate, acute, about 15 mm long; spikes spreading, slightly arching, subdensely 23-flowered, 70 mm long, 6–10 mm wide, the lower long-stipitate with sterile bracts; rachis undulate, strongly compressed, angled, excavated next the flowers, sparsely pale-lepidote; floral bracts ovate, 4–5 mm long, slightly but regularly shorter than the sepals, ecarinate, even, sparsely lepidote. flowers: sepals obovate, retuse, scarcely more than 5 mm long. fruits slenderly cylindric, apiculate, 18 mm long.
