plant ca 1.2 m tall when flowering, rupicolous, clustering or solitary. leaves spreading-recurved, forming rosettes 30–50 cm in diameter; sheath much broader than the blades, broadly obovate, sparsely lepidote internally and externally at the top, 2.5–3.2 x 4.4–5.5 cm, margins entire; blade 27–34 x 1.3–1.7 cm, narrowly subtriangular-lanceolate, greenish at the base and then turning vinaceous or completely vinaceous, white lepidote to sparsely white lepidote towards the apex, on both surfaces, adaxial surface shiny, margins densely spinose; spines 5–10 mm long, patent, the upper ones ca 2–3 mm long, straight to slightly retrorse, densely white lepidote. inflorescence: peduncle terminal, ca 65 cm long, greenish, erect, glabrous or glabrescent, ribbed; lower peduncle bracts foliaceous, exceeding the internodes, 14–24 cm long, lanceolate to linear,   erect or divergent, apex acute-attenuate, vinaceous, white lepidote, margins densely spinose recurved, the upper bracts many times shorter than the internodes, resembling the floral bracts, ca 0.5 cm long, stramineous, recurved, clasping the peduncle, triangular, apex acute, glabrescent to glabrous, margin inconspicuously serrulate; fertile part ca 25 cm long, racemose, simple, erect, laxly flowered, glabrous; rachis greenish, glabrous, ribbed; floral bracts much shorter than the pedicels, 1.5–2.0 mm, dark brown, glabrescent to sparsely lepidote, narrowly subtriangular-lanceolate, apex caudate, sometimes reflexed, margins inconspicuously spinulose to entire. flowers 1.0–1.7 cm long, glabrous, polystichous, spreading, completely exposing the rachis; pedicel 6.5–9.5 mm, divergent to spreading, distal end geniculate, dark brown; sepals 4.7–5.9 x 3.1–3.3 mm, ovate-lanceolate, not imbricate, symmetrical, greenish with minute purplish-wine spots throughout, apex subacute or less commonly obtuse, inconspicuously apiculate, margins inconspicuously denticulate; petals 0.9–1.0 x 0.4–0.6 cm, ovate-lanceolate, not imbricate, symmetrical, cream, except for a dark purple margin, apex obtuse to subacute, margins entire to inconspicuously denticulate near the apex. stamens ca 6.5 mm long, exserted; filament free, cream; anther dorsifixed. pistil: ovary ca 4 mm long, green; style ca 2.5 mm long, exserted, green; stigma ca 1.5 mm, conduplicate-spiral, cream. fruits unknown.
